Learnframe Press Release
Publishing Executives See the Future at their Annual Meeting
Powerful e-Knowledge Network and eLearning Delivery Capabilities Wows Top Management

Boston, MA & Draper, UT– March 11, 2002 – Learning Objects Network, Inc. (LON), an Internet infrastructure company and Learnframe™, the leading developer of e-Learning infrastructure technologies, demonstrated the unique ability to deliver real time training and performance support information from multiple distributed repositories of standard reusable learning objects.  This exciting demonstration took place at the annual meeting of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) on February 28, 2002.

Together with their partners, LON and Learnframe™, set up a working demonstration with live Internet links that displayed the power of a SCORM-compliant distributed networking environment.  LON demonstrated the ability to search the LON learning object registry, locate learning objects in three repositories, and deliver them to the Learnframe learning management system (LMS).  Learnframe’s LMS then successfully compiled the learning objects into a course for delivery to a student.

Pearson Education, Sikorsky Aircraft, Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins, Medantic, and Advanced Practice Strategies provided content for the demonstration.  Dynamic course sequencing was provided by  iDL Systems and InXight provided advanced visual searching technology.

Emerging industry and technical standards was a key theme for the annual assembly of publishing leaders.  Michael Eisner, Disney Chairman, outlined the urgent need for Digital Rights protection for the creative talent.

Michael Parmentier, Director of Training and Readiness for the Department of Defense (DoD), described DoD efforts to produce learning technology standards for digital objects to be used in training, education, and performance support throughout defense agencies.  Development of the new standards called SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) has involved the collaboration of industry, academia, standards bodies and the DoD.  Parmentier also communicated that suppliers to the various defense agencies will need to provide training and documentation consistent with the new standards or risk loosing government business.

“We were very pleased to demonstrate the benefits of the new standards,” said John Purcell, president of Learning Objects Network.  “We’ve been delighted to work with the leaders of the publishing industry to speed commercial adoption of the SCORM specifications with the goal of reducing costs and development time and obtaining new sources of revenue.”

“Learnframe was pleased with the outcome of the conference,” said Ralph Mason, president of Learnframe.  “Our relationship with LON delivers the promise of SCORM and highlights a technology partnership that will continue to develop advanced e-Learning solutions.  This relationship with LON has opened new doors and opportunities and we are excited about future possibilities.”

Response to the demonstration was extremely positive.  As a result, LON and Learnframe have been asked to present their demonstration to different government agencies and set up early implementation in some organizations.
